Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of United States. She is both the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official in the United America. As a part of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and as an United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born and raised in Oakland, California. Her career began with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was appointed district attorney for San Francisco. In 2010 she was appointed Attorney General of California and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
